I am from Ireland and I was fortunate to grow up in a family that encouraged a belief in the mystical and magical. Every child should experience this magic and thus began The Magic Forest series.

I began writing the books first, eleven are already completed. However, I thought that the first thing I should do is get my feet wet with an Alphabet book. This has opened up another avenue that I hadn’t previously thought of. Seriously, how basic is an Alphabet book? As I navigate the early school years with my own two children, and realize how crazy, insanely difficult it is to teach a child to read (and have it make sense to the child!!), I found very little tools out there that could help me, as a parent, beyond the basic alphabet book. Even when looking at those alphabet books, most had incorrect letter sounds (oval is not the correct letter sound for o!)  somewhere in their books. That’s when I decided to set the record straight.

I’m fortunate to have a sister whom is a Montessori kindergarten teacher with 20 years experience, and I’ve picked up tidbits from her over the years. Things she would advise me to teach my children in preparation for the classroom, correct letter sounds being one of the top priorities. So while the Magic Forest adventures are just waiting to be illustrated, I’m focusing on reading right now. With Book 2 in the works, I will extend the alphabet sounds into letter blends, discussing consonants and vowels. My aim is that the books be as helpful to the parent as to the child. I know we’ve each been speaking English for decades but when we sit down and actually look at its complexities, it’s baffling.

So here goes! I hope you enjoy the first taste of The Magic Forest. There’s so much more to come.

Happy Reading!

P.S. I’ve been writing a Mommy blog for a couple years now, and prefer to keep it real. Henceforth, The Ragged Mommy. 😀
